On Wesak Day

On 19 May 2008, Buddhists celebrate Wesak which marks Buddha's birthday, enlightenment and death. The word Wesak comes from one of the Indian languages and it refers to the name of a month in old Indian calendar which usually comes in May. In some countries, Wesak Day, which is observed on the full moon in May, is also known as Buddha Day.
